Albright Care Services held its 19th annual Golf Challenge at Bucknell University on Monday, June 5, an event which raised $124,000 in support of benevolent care. Added to previous year’s amounts, this makes a cumulative total of $1.5 million raised since its inception in 1999.
Individuals including: staff, board members, campus residents, United Methodist pastors and community members raised money to golf in the challenge, an event which has welcomed over 270 unique fundraiser golfers over the years. In addition, 39 businesses and organizations sponsored the event at a variety of levels, contributing nearly half of the total raised.
This year, 37 fundraiser golfers and 32 sponsored golfers participated in the Golf Challenge, while 15 staff and community members volunteered at the event. Each fundraiser golfer made a significant contribution through personal fundraising in order to play in the event, with all monies raised used to support benevolent care at Normandie Ridge in York, RiverWoods in Lewisburg and Albright LIFE in Williamsport, Lancaster and Lebanon. All money raised through Golf Challenge supports Albright’s Benevolent Care Fund, a fund which supports residents who have outlived their financial resources by providing for essential needs.
Following a full day of golf which ended with a banquet in the clubhouse, the Rev. Doug Eberly of Williamsport, received a plaque in recognition of his fundraising achievement in surpassing the cumulative milestone of raising more than $75,000 over the 17 years he has participated in the Golf challenge. Eberly was also the top fundraiser this year with a total of $7,137. Special recognition was also given to the Rev. Ted Corcelius of Huntingdon, for raising $1,021 in his first year of participation.
Albright would like to thank all of its Golf Challenge business and organization sponsors, fundraiser golfers and volunteers for helping to meet its mission of creating the highest quality of life by encouraging purposeful living through personalized, progressive and compassionate communities deeply rooted in serving others.
